Abstract
Background: Rapid technological advancements often exacerbate the digital divide between urban, modernized environments and rural, traditional communities. Objective: This narrative study explores the contrasting impacts of digital technology on different demographics, highlighting the disparities between urban youth benefiting from smart automation and rural elderly individuals facing socio-economic exclusion due to digital financial systems. Methods & Key Findings: Through comparative personal observations, the essay contrasts a highly integrated smart home environment in an urban setting with the experiences of a rural small-scale vendor struggling with digital banking adoption. Findings indicate that while technology enhances convenience for digital natives, a lack of accessibility and digital literacy severely marginalizes uneducated elderly populations, threatening their livelihoods. Conclusion: The observed gap emphasizes the urgent need for inclusive technology design and targeted digital literacy initiatives to ensure vulnerable populations are not left behind in transitioning economies.
